About the Author & Founder, Shihoko Ura
Shihoko Ura was born in the Wakayama prefecture of Japan and moved to Australia with her family over 20 years ago. She worked as a nurse and a teacher before her passion for photography and love for Japanese home cooking led her to create Chopstick Chronicles. During her childhood in rural countryside Japan, Shihoko learnt how to cook from her grandma and family making simple and traditional Japanese food. These cherished family recipes became something she cooked with her own children after relocating to Australia to give them nutritious and delicious Japanese cuisine and to keep the traditions and culture of Japan thriving in their lives. But the same Japanese ingredients weren’t easily accessible anymore so Shihoko learned how to adjust and simplify the recipes, where to source ingredients from, and how to substitute or make the ingredients herself. She now shares this all with you because authentic Japanese food should be something we can all cook and enjoy at home!
