We are Shihoko and Elizabeth, a mother and daughter duo blog team from Australia! My mom (Shihoko) loves taking photographs, especially of food, and I have an interest in writing so we decided to combine our hobbies, and our shared passion for Japanese food, and create this blog together!
The food back in Japan is always so deliciously and delicately presented that we are always conflicted between preserving it and eating it. So to achieve both Shihoko likes to take photographs of the food…then eat it. She has always liked taking food photographs but she did not have a a good quality camera until she bought one for our Europe trip 2 years ago. She bought the Canon EOS 100D DSLR camera because it had a miniature shooting mode that she could take mini shots of European cities with, it also had an automatic food photography setting which was a great bonus! Even before that though, she had been taking food photos with her iPhone whenever we ate at our favorite local bakeries, restaurants, and at home of the home cooked meals she made. This caused her to gain a little bit of weight.
Well…not just a little, more like 15 kg. According to her, she let herself go a bit since we moved to Australia when I was 2 years old and it got to a point that she had to do something about it. She decided to join the Sarah Wilson’s “I Quit Sugar” program because she thought that sugar was causing her to get fat. So she joined the first round of the program and there was an Instagram competition running in the program. She cooked the food and styled the food and took photos and published on Instagram. She became so hooked on taking food photos. She ended up winning the competition and really enjoyed the process of photographing her food and she also learned a lot more about how to take good photos.
But although she loves taking photographs of food and making delicious Japanese recipes, her english is not the best so she has employed me as her author and editor in chief (and IT consultant; I’ve been given a lot of jobs). So that’s how we started this blog together as a team! But if the English in some posts is not the best, it may have written it by my mom so she says that she hopes in those cases that the photos will be enough because “A picture is worth a thousand words!”
We hope you enjoy looking at photos of delicious Japanese dishes and also learning how to make them at home yourself!
