Isn’t it exciting to go to a Japanese restaurant and eat all the delicious dishes they have?! Does it get a little annoying though when you have no idea what some of the words mean and the menu doesn’t explain much? To help you, I made this little list of some of the prefixes and suffixes used for food on Japanese menus. These words can usually be found on most Japanese restaurant menus and if you don’t know what they mean it can be a little difficult to choose a dish so to help you understand a few of the most common Japanese food terms on menus, I thought I would make this little chart so that you know what you’re ordering!
Great little infographic, sushi terminology can be quite difficult but once you grasp it – you’ve got some great dishes to look forward to!
Thank you Emily 😀 I am glad to know that was useful for you.
Just what I needed! Now if only I could learn to read kanji, katakana and hiragana…
Hi Rebekah, you will learn Kana scripts and Kanji gradually, while you are in Japan:D.
